Upcoming Events: Eating Awareness Seminar

Mark your calendars for Sat, May 31, 2008 at 12pm. I will be giving a seminar on Eating Awareness at the downtown Toadal Fitness at 12 and then another at the Live Oak Toadal Fitness at 12:45.  It is free, in honor of our open house that day, and will be a quick way for you to learn some invaluable insight into eating more healthfully and mindfully. Hope to see you there!

Zumba-thon

Have you heard of Zumba? It is sweeping the nation as a fun, great way to get cardiovascular exercise.  I’ve been taking it weekly at Toadal Fitness.  The blend of latin dance, hip hop, and moves you’d typically see on the dance floor of the booty-shaking variety make for one fun aerobics class!

Last weekend, I participated in a Zumba-thon at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz. Translation: a 2-hour sweaty, fund-raising dance party with some of the best instructors in Santa Cruz County.  Live drums and a sound system kept us motivated as each different instructor took to the stage to teach their segment. It was fabulous! To all of you that have been pondering whether or not to try Zumba, I highly recommend it. Go at your own pace and soon enough, you will be ready to participate in the next Zumba-tho. :)

Organic Foods You Can’t Afford Not To Eat

When it comes to eating organic produce, certain fruits and vegetables carry more health benefits for their buck.  While I recommend eating most foods organic (especially those of animal origin, including meats, milk, cheese and eggs), the following plant foods are especially pesticide ridden.  If you are going to eat them, organic is the way to go:

Fruits:

  • Peaches and nectarines
  • Strawberries and cherries
  • Apples and pears
  • Imported grapes

Veggies:

  • Spinach and lettuce
  • Potatoes and celery
  • Sweet bell peppers
